Publication Design

Ultra Suede: A Farewell to the Man & The City is a personal publication by Roger Colombik, created as a tribute to his father, Lee Colombik, while reflecting on memory, place, and his relationship to Chicago.

Developed in collaboration with Roger and Enguri River Press, the publication explores editorial design as a narrative tool, combining photography, archival material, and typographic pacing to construct a reflective reading experience. The structure moves between personal tribute and environmental observation, using typographic layout and sequencing to mirror shifts in the text.

The publication takes a restrained approach to design, allowing space and composition to carry emotional weight without excess. Understated way-finding elements lead a path for the reader. It functions as both a personal archive and a visual essay, grounded in themes of loss, identity, and belonging.
