Typography
As a child, I spent a lot of time playing with Lincoln Logs and often used them in ways they weren’t originally intended. I was a designer, not an architect. This project explores how the classic toy can be used beyond building structures by turning its familiar pieces into a new form.
Created as an addition to the Lincoln Logs 100th Anniversary Tin, the project features a custom typeface built entirely from Lincoln Log pieces. The idea was inspired by a childhood photo of me using the logs to spell my name. By transforming the toy’s recognizable shapes into letterforms, I created a custom typeface that gives users another meaningful point of interaction with the brand. Also giving me closure in finishing a project I started as a child.
The typeface became the foundation for a commemorative poster and alphabet book. The alphabet book pairs each letter with words related to the toy’s history and creative uses. Together, these pieces celebrate the legacy of Lincoln Logs and encourage people to see the toy as more than just a log house.
